Join us as an array of adoptable dogs from local rescue organizations like Mountain Pet Rescue show off some of the fantastic products that Patton Avenue Pet Company stocks for pets and their people! Then, join the models after the show to meet them and maybe even take one home!

What inspires people to want to make a change? What gets in the way? Hear from community members engaged in local environmental and social justice and find others passionate about what matters to you.

2:30 - 3PM: Carnival Variety Show presented by Asheville Vaudeville

Enjoy a Collaged Vaudeville style variety show with the folks from Asheville Vaudeville!

3:30 - 4PM: Hip-Hop & Healing presented by Bountiful Cities

Bountiful Cities will be discussing some of the issues that are found in the African-American communities and how hip-hop as well as gardening can help to counter those issues.

About Bountiful Cities: Our mission at Bountiful Cities is to be Asheville’s Urban Agriculture resource.

4:30 - 5PM: The Urban Apple Orchard: From History to Modern Day

A history on the apple agricultural industry of Western North Carolina and how that has influenced the cider industry of Asheville. Jeff Anderson, marketing and creative director of Urban Orchard Cider Company will go in depth on what it means to be a sustainably growing cidery in WNC. Covering topics such as why it’s important to maintain and support working relationships with farmers and what Urban Orchard is doing to ensure a healthy economic balance between producers and consumers. A short presentation and Q&A will be followed by a unique cider sampling for those of age.

About The Urban Orchard Cider Company: The Urban Orchard Cider Bar serves at least two purposes.  First and foremost, this is a warm and inviting space to experience our one of a kind hard ciders that are made on site.  The hard work and science takes place downstairs, so that minds can be blown up above. The second main function is to provide an atmosphere that fosters creativity, invigorating discussion with friends or just a warm chair to enjoy your cider in one hand and your new favorite book in the other.

5:30 - 6:30PM: Artist in the Round Presented by Ten Cent Poetry

Chelsea LaBate (Ten Cent Poetry) will read from her unreleased book Songcrafter™ and lead a panel in discussing topics like prioritizing, focus, stamina, creative flow, battling doubt and eliminating self destructive behavior. Indulge in sparkling prose, inspiring tactics and illuminated conversation with a panel of Asheville’s finest songwriters.


More Information: Chelsea La Bate is the creator of Songcrafter™ an audio series and book BJ Leidermen of NPR called “The Artist Way for songwriters.” Songcrafter works to keep creatives close to their craft. She has been a full time performing artist for ten years.

6:45 - 7:45PM: Community Media Mixer hosted by Date my City


Join Date My City as we explore the role that community media plays in shaping our collective narrative. You’ll hear from members of local community media outlets engaged in telling Asheville’s stories. Be informed and inspired by JMPRO TV (video channel), The Urban News (monthly newspaper), Word on the Street/La Voz de los Jóvenes (online magazine run by teens of color), Asheville FM (radio station), Hood Tours (tour company), and Ami Worthen (writer).
